Problem / Requirement

A process equipment vendor needed a complete fabrication drawing package for a structural steel skid base frame that would house two compressor units, associated piping and a control panel enclosure. The skid was destined for a client in the Middle East where full traceability of materials was mandatory, requiring an itemised Bill of Materials linked to mill certificate call-outs and a formal material requisition for steel procurement. The vendor's internal draughting team had capacity for mechanical equipment drawings only and needed specialist outsourced support for the structural package.

Engineering Scope

3-D modelling of the skid frame from design-intent general arrangement sketches
Preparation of individual part drawings for each unique cut plate, gusset, base plate and beam section
Sub-assembly drawings covering the main frame, equipment mounting pads and fork pockets
Top-level assembly drawing with overall dimensions, lifting point locations and centre-of-gravity note
Weld detail drawings: fillet sizes, full-penetration joint preparation, NDT extent and inspection hold points
Itemised Bill of Materials (BOM) keyed to part marks on assembly drawings
BOM spreadsheet formatted per client's material traceability requirements
Material Requisition (MR) covering all structural steel sections, plates and fasteners

Deliverables

3-D Model (STEP/IGES) — Skid FrameIndividual Part Drawings (×38 unique parts)Sub-Assembly Drawing — Main FrameSub-Assembly Drawing — Equipment Mounting PadsTop-Level Assembly Drawing with Lifting and CoG DataWeld Detail Drawing Set (×4 sheets)Itemised Bill of Materials (BOM) — Excel & PDFMaterial Requisition (MR) — Structural Steel Procurement

Client Value Delivered

Full fabrication package issued within three weeks, allowing the fabricator to begin procurement and cutting concurrently
Itemised BOM eliminated ambiguity over material grades and cut sizes, reducing fabricator queries to zero during production
3-D model provided to the erection team enabled pre-fit check of equipment mounting interfaces before skid despatch
Weld detail sheets with hold-point inspection schedule satisfied the client's third-party inspection agency requirements on first submission
Material Requisition in standard procurement format allowed direct issue to the steel service centre without reformatting
